Venetian Bridge Kalopanagioti
The Venetian bridge Kalopanagioti is one of the most beautiful natural attractions of Cyprus and it is located in the homonymous village of Nicosia province.
Only 100 meters south of Agios Ioannis Lampadistis, amongst tall plane trees and near the hot springs Kalopanagioti, the Venetian bridge Kalapanagioti used to connect the village with the monastery, the first elementary school and the agricultural area. For many centuries this bridge was the only way to approach the church which is now declared world heritage by UNESCO. It is also the third bridge that passes over Setrachos river which flows through the valley of Marathasa and it is close to the point where Apostle Paul and Varnavas baptized St. Irakleidios.
This beautiful structure of the Venetian era in 16 th century, made from local stone, is typical of stone bridge making of the contemporary craftsmen.
Every year on the 6 th of January, the day of Theophany, the baptism of the Cross takes place in the Venetian bridge Kalopanayiotis in a solemn ceremony, followed by serving of traditional dumplings in the monastery square.
