Vathia Gonia Beach

The beach Vathia Gonia or Sandy Bay as it is also called, is situated 4 km west of Ayia Napa in the Famagusta district of Cyprus, and just 400 meters east of the Nissi beach.

The beach Vathia Gonia got its name from the deep recess formed in the bay surrounding it (vathia gonia means deep corner in Greek).

The largest comb sculpture in the world welcomes all visitors to the beach Vathia Gonia. As a well-protected bay is not daunted by the winds. The shallow waters have been awarded the Blue Flag, and form small ponds along the coast, although the sea deepens somewhat abruptly at some points. Its is 300 meters long and 40 meters wide and has fine golden sand, while the beach has two rocky edges on both sides, which attract lovers of the underwater world.

The beach may be quite popular, as it is well organized and offers free Wi-Fi access to its visitors, but it still remains a quiet and calm place, due to its large sandy shore.

The beach Vathia Gonia, along with the beach Vrysi C in touristic Protaras are two of the total of five beaches on the island of Aphrodite that enable independent access to the sea, as well as to other facilities, for the disabled.

In the wider region of Vathia Gonia beach visitors can indulge in various water sports and can also find many places to stay, as well as cafe-restaurants, while lifeguards and first aid equipment are available from 10:00 to 18:00 daily during summer.

The access to Vathia Gonia beach is easy by any means of transportation and there is ample space for parking. Alternatively, you can walk for about 2.5 km along a path that connects it with the port of Ayia Napa to the east or the 4 kilometers trail to the west, all the way to the beach Megali Makronisos.
