Vasa Kellakiou
The village Vasa Kellakiou is located about 35 km away from Limassol in the homonymous province of Cyprus, and is 55 km from Larnaca, 75 km from Nicosia and 100 km from Paphos.
Approximately 7 km northwest from the main village of the Kellakiou region, built at an altitude of 400 meters and at the borderline between Larnaca and Limassol, Vasa Kellakiou is a small village with almost 50 residents, who mainly engage in the production of beans.
Previously Vasa Kellakiou was the central among the other neighboring villages, which today are sadly slowly dissapearing, while during the Venetian rule the area was important as there was a large tunnel that was used in order to hide the women and children (the ruins of its entrance are still preserved intact).
In a prominent location at the entrance of the village Vasa Kellakiou you will see the offices of the Community Council, while close to the building there is the
Industriousness Monument, but also a historic wagon from the mines of the area. In the heart of the village stands the built with stones from the river Koufkio church of Agios Dimitrios (St. Demetrious) with the famous miraculous Agiopetra (Sacred stone), while at approximately two kilometers from the village, there is a chapel dedicated to the Panagia Vossiena, patron of shepherds. Furthermore, along the length of the village there is a football field, a small playground, the old school, and several stone drinking fountains.
Other customs of the Vasa Kellakiou community is the traditional Easter games, such as egg throws, and the various feasts of the church.
Apart from a small picnic area hidden from view by the foliage of many eucalypts, where one can enjoy a picnic in nature, in Vasa Kellakiou there is a traditional tavern and an agricultural lodge.
