Stavros tis Psokas
Stavros tis Psokas is one of the many natural attractions of Cyprus, located 60 kilometers northeast of Paphos, in the forest of Paphos, 25 kilometers from Kikkou monastery, 100 kilometers west of Nicossia and 120 kilometers northwest of Limassol.
According to tradition the Stavros tis Psokas or Psoras was named like this because once a girl who suffered from psoriasis visited the region and she was miraculously healed. A small chapel was built for this in the valley of St. Theodore, a remnant of the region’s history. The whole region is a popular excursion spot for nature lovers who like to camp in the area. The camping can accommodate 60 tents and caravans and it has WC, showers and a barbeque. The forest police is also accommodated there while next to it there is a fenced area with protected deer, the famous mouflon, which also lives free in the area.
At 900 meters altitude, the picnic area of Stavros Psokas operates throughout the year, and is an unspoiled natural and cultural environment of the island, but also one of the prime alternative destinations of Cyprus. Whatever direction the visitor may follows to approach it, one will pass through beautiful forests of cedar trees (Cedar Valley), and many nature footpaths. The more adventurous types can hike to the tallest peak of Paphos forest, Tripylos, in order to enjoy the panoramic view. Besides hiking, the region is also an opportunity to see rare plants, birds and reptiles of the island.
