Spitali

Spitali is a village of the district of Limassol in Cyprus and is situated about 10 kilometers north of Limassol, 76 kilometers from Larnaca, 80 kilometers southwest of Nicosia and 80 kilometers east of Paphos.

Built at an altitude of 400 meters, Spitali is a semi-mountainous village with about 300 inhabitants in which luxury lodges are built for foreigners and Cypriots, as its proximity to Limassol and the surrounding nature make it ideal for permanent residence.

In the past, the village used to have an important underground railway substation that started from Amiantos and ended up on the shore, making a total route of about 35 km. The wagons were filled with asbestos sacks that were mined at the Troodos mines and were headed to the shore to be subsequently exported to other countries. The mines ceased to operate in 1988, as did the station at Spitali.

Today, in the community of Spitali, which is twinned with Spitali Messinias, there is the church of Agia Anna with the beautiful bell tower.
