Pretori

Pretori is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus and it is situated 45 kilometers northeast of the homonymous city, 48 kilometers northwest of Limassol and 98 kilometers southwest of Nicosia. A settlement built at an altitude of 650 meters among the orchards, vineyards and conifer trees, Pretori is one of the picturesque villages of the province with few inhabitants and it is located near Agios Nikolaos Paphou, Kedares and Filousa. The small ampelochori (wine-producing villages of Cyprus) with the small traditional houses and the beautiful vines, hosts one of the most famous wineries in Cyprus and is the place where many foreign and Cypriot visitors come to taste its fine varieties. There is a guided tour and free wine testing, while anyone interested can buy red and white dry, sweet and semi-sweet wines. In the community there is also a tavern-cafeteria for guests who want to extend their visit to this beautiful village.

The central church of Pretori is that of Panagia Chryseleousa with the beautiful and tall bell tower, and there is also the chapel of Archangels Michael and Gabriel.

Also known for the Palouzes Festival of Pretori (palouzes is a traditional local sweet jelly, made out of grape juice), the community is filled with people in September, when the said festival is celebrated.

Nearby attractions are also the Panagia Salamiotissa Monastery dating back to the 16th century, located 10 km from the village, as well as the nearby dam of Arminos.
