Pera Pedi

The village of Pera Pedi can be found about 30 kilometers west of Limassol in the homonymous province of Cyprus, and is 85 km from Nicosia, 100 km from Larnaca and 65 km from Pafos.

Within a verdant mountain setting, at an altitude of 800 meters, with a sluice for controlling the gushing waters of Kryos River, Pera Pedi in the past has been a crossroads for the nearby villages, and also was famous for its "kathista" apples (a local variety of apples).

The name of Pera Pedi comes from the fact that the village lies on a “flat field, a plain” (pedio means field in Greek), with a mountainous backdrop. At the same time, the ancient word “pedion” means “the place where something happens,” and this village was the main stop for passers-by in the area.

An important “first” for Pera Pedi is considered the fact that there opened the first factory of the famous company KEO in 1891, which is also open to the public upon request. Today the village has about 100 permanent residents, but many people visit it in order to walk the paved roads that connect the old with the new settlement, visit the traditional houses, and the historic church of Agios Nikolaos (St. Nicholas) with the 16th century icons.

Other attractions for the tourist in Pera Pedi are the restored village watermill with its Museum, which can be visited at certain appointed by the council times, the churches of Agios Ioannis (St. John) and Agia Paraskevi (St. Paraskevi), as well as a beautiful nature trail.

In Pera Pedi one can find homes available for rent, taverns and cafes. There is also a local winery known for its production of excellent wines and liqueurs.
