Nissia Beach
The beach Nissia or Green Bay is located about 10 km away from the center of Ayia Napa in the Famagusta region in Cyprus and nearly two kilometers away from the vaunted Fig Tree Beach.
Southeast of Protaras you will find a quiet bay with a length of 60 meters and 25 meters wide, which is surrounded by pine and eucalyptus trees – Nissia beach. The beach according to the locals was thus named because of the many islets that exist in the region (nissia means islands in Greek), and in the old days it used to serve as a natural port for many fishing boats.
The beach Nissia is semi-organized and has only a few sun loungers, with many swimmers resting next to the sandstone platforms located on the coast, while the whole atmosphere of the beach compensates the visitor for the lack of amenities. Here the sea deepens somewhat abruptly, so one can engage in water sports or underwater exploration. In the wider area the visitor can find even more services, as well as a kiosk located 5 minutes from the beach. To the left from the coast there is also a small harbor for small boats that offers parking places.
For the lovers of archeology and of stories with shipwrecks, apart from the Neolithic site discovered and excavated in the region, recently on Nissia Beach was found and recovered a cannon from an ancient shipwreck, about three miles from the shore, which dates back to the Turkish occupation.
