Nissi Beach

Nissi Beach is the “headliner” of summer in the Famagusta region and perhaps the most popular beach of the whole island of Cyprus. Nissi is located west of Ayia Napa, approximately 5 km away from the city.

The first impression when encountering Nissi beach is that it exudes an atmosphere of a “night out”, since the visitor immediately sees people dancing to frenetic rhythms while enjoying their drinks at the adjacent café-bars. Though the Nissi beach is particularly popular with young peoples who want to combine sunbathing with partying, you will also find there quite a few families (usually at the two edges of the beach) who want to get a strong exotic taste of beauty together with their loved ones.

During the summer months, on Nissi beach a big party is held every day. As one of the most cosmopolitan beaches of the island of Venus, it attracts thousands of tourists every year. Indeed, in the recent past it has been listed among Europe’s best beaches.

Nissi beach is famous for its crystal clear shallow waters, which have been awarded with the Blue Flag and is ideal for families with children, as it is well protected from winds (with the exception of a few times, when on the eastern part of the beach the sea gets choppy) and the sea is calm and peaceful. Covered with fine golden sand, Nissi consists of two connected beaches, with the largest of the two being always crowded with people.

This is a spectacularly beautiful landscape, as in the western part of the coast there is a small rocky islet, which is joined to the coast because of the relatively short distance between the two points and the coastal currents. This phenomenon is unique in the whole of Cyprus. Thus, between May and early September on Nissi a shallow sea “corridor is formed leading to the island across the sea.

The surrounding area of the Nissi beach is well organized, so visitors can undertake all kinds of water sports, as well as scuba diving at the diving center operating there. Lifeguards and first aid equipment is available from 10:00 to 18:00 every day, and also there are many accommodation facilities, as well as restaurants and cafes catering to every taste. Moreover, the beach is accessible to people using a wheelchair as there is suitable walkway, umbrellas, chairs and loungers.

Access to Nissi beach is very easy by any means of transportation, by taking the homonymous road, and there are two parking lots available, at walking distance from the beach, with parking spaces for the disabled.
