Municipal Market of Paphos
The Municipal Market of Paphos (Dimotiki Agora Paphou) is one of the most vibrant cultural attractions in the region that represents and reflects the way of life, culture and eating habits of the locals.
In a place of historical significance for Paphos, in the famous Ktima (Estate) on Petrakis Miliatadou Street, in the old town of Paphos, which has always been the historical center, the Municipal Market was built in 1920 and once it was a place exclusively selling meat, fish and vegetables. Today, with more than 100 stores, small and large, it is filled with colors, perfumes and the local
products of Paphos and its fertile lands and not only. In addition to edible products, traditional clothes, handmade artwork from local artists, baskets, jewelery and accessories, natural beauty products, bags, shoes and many more are sold there.
It is worth for the visitor to come here and wander among the stores and the vendors of the Municipal Market of Paphos, filled with fresh vegetables and fruits coming directly from small rural producers, buying spices, meats and fish or simply chatting with the locals, taking a taste of the recent past of the authentic Cypriot culture of the previous decades that still survives in this local "bazaar".
A central point for a tour of the wider region, being within walking distance of the small narrow streets of the city and major attractions such as the Ottoman Baths of Paphos, the Municipal Market of Paphos can be combined with a morning coffee in the neighboring cafes and the beautiful traditional cafeterias or even with a homemade lunch at one of the taverns that surround it. There, the “Laiki Gonia”, after the touristic development of Paphos, has become a pedestrian district and the tourist shopping center of the city. Every Saturday, the open air market of fruit and vegetables is set in the open air. The Municipal Market of Paphos operates daily except on Sundays.
