Meneu
Meneu is a village in the Larnaca district of Cyprus, situated about 8 kilometers west of Larnaca, 54 kilometers southeast of Nicosia and 70 kilometers northeast of Limassol.
Built at an altitude of just 17 meters above sea level and very close to Aliki of Larnaca, the International Airport of Larnaca and the city, Meneu is a large settlement that together with Dromolaxia forms the Dromolaxia-Meneos Municipality since 2011. Much land in the area is located in the take-off and landing zones of the neighboring airport.
Although it is very close to Larnaca and has great residential development, it is an area with a rich natural environment and lush vegetation, while there is a seaside lake surrounded with eucalypti and cypresses. Many of its fruits and vegetables are grown locally, which the visitor can obtain directly from the producer on the benches that are set along the road.
After the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the exchange of populations that followed, displaced Greek Cypriot refugees were forced to leave their homes in the Turkish-occupied areas of northern Cyprus, while large land was handed over to the refugee union of New Salamis Famagusta and to others. Respectively, the Turkish Cypriot inhabitants of the village moved to the occupied north. The main church of the village is opposite the primary school and is a modern temple dedicated to Saint Panteleimon, while nearby there is the municipal park of the area.
Meneu is known for its large coastal front situated to the south of Larnaca Airport. Meneu beach is a small organized beach, ideal for families with children and easily accessible. Close to the desalination plant there is a beach where dogs are allowed to swim.
The approximately 1,700 people in Meneos are employed in businesses in Larnaca and many are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming.
