Marathounda

Marathounda is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus, situated 9 kilometers east of Paphos, 70 kilometers northwest of Limassol and 154 kilometers southwest of Nicosia.

A quiet settlement built at an altitude of 370 meters and on a hill, Marathounda is a small traditional village that brings peace and quiet to its visitors. Although not far from the hectic Paphos with its infrastructures, it manages to maintain a more rural character, at the same time enjoying the privileges of its proximity to the urban center. For those who want to visit the area, there is a tavern with local appetizers, as well as in neighboring Armou, but for further infrastructure facilities there is the city or the more developed Konia, just 5 minutes away by car.

Marathounda, as well as the other nearby villages to Paphos, is mainly developed residentially, as many locals and foreigners come here to buy or rent luxury villas, mansions and fields. Some use them as cottages, while others choose them for permanent residences.

The central church of the village is dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary) Odigitria, but there are also the chapels of Agios Mamas and Agia Marina. The former elementary school has now become a beautiful community park, and there is a monument dedicated to the heroes of the community who fell during the intercommunal riots of the 1960s (Kyriakos Leonidas) and the Turkish invasion of 1974 (Charalambos Fteroudis, Giannakis Siammas).
