Mansion of Aksiothea
The Mansion of Aksiothea (Archontiko tis Aksiotheas) is one of the cultural attractions in the city of Nicosia and specifically in the homonymous street, making it one of the most characteristic examples of urban architecture of the 18th century.
Built near the Green Line and within the old town, hosting the Cultural Festival of the University of Cyprus every year, the Mansion of Aksiothea is a two-storey building that was built in the shape of the Greek letter Π, with a north-south orientation and originally it occupied more space. Its main entrance is located on the eastern side of the house and leads to the inner courtyard. To the west and south there is a portico with a series of arches separating the courtyard from the rooms. Inside the building, on the ground floor there are 3 large halls and 4 rooms, while on the first floor there are also 3 large halls and 2 smaller rooms.
The Mansion of Aksiothea, which owes its name to the street it is situated on, has been renovated and serves as a space for cultural events, concerts, theater performances, exhibitions and seminars of the University of Cyprus. Besides, there is hosted the Cultural Center of the university.
