Limassol Zoo
The Limassol Zoo in Cyprus is located at the heart of the city, near the beach and it is part of the municipal gardens of Limassol.
Its operation started slowly in 1950 with birds and after the donation of the first animal besides the birds, the Limassol Zoo, which was constructed based on European standards, started to host several animals from Cyprus and abroad.
After reconstruction in 2012, with natural materials, stone, glass, rope and wood, it is now a multifunctional facility that offers the visitor, fun, entertainment and education. It is a major attraction for tourists who come in Limassol, but also locals who bring their children to see the rare animals. In the zoo there is an African type impressive cafe overlooking the sea, green and flamingos of the garden, while for children there is a modern playground, a zoological corner and pony rides (daily except Mondays).
In Limassol Zoo visitors will see a wide variety of birds, reptiles and mammals from all continents in specially designed cages with information. Some of the animals that are there are Indian pythons, swans, whitehead tamarins, pelicans, lemurs, cappuccinos, llamas, ostriches, iguanas, vultures, ponies, meerkats, crocodiles and more.
Limassol Zoo and its modern educational center organizes educational lectures at the outdoor amphitheater, guided tours and information about the wildlife and fauna and its goals are the research, protection, reproduction and release into nature of species threatened with extinction. The premises are available for events such as children’s parties, baptisms and weddings, while it is accessible to the disabled with special ramps and toilets.
