Lake Evretou
Lake Evretou is one of the natural attractions of Paphos province and is one of the many artificial lakes created in the homonymous dam for the irrigation of the region of Chrysochous.
The dam is the third largest one in Cyprus, with a capacity of 25 million cubic meters, and it was built in 1986. It created a new ecosystem where many species of fauna and flora live. Lake of Evretou is ideal for birdwatching as many rare species are met there as well as rare species of flora like Phlomis and Cistus Incanus or fish species like the carp, roach, pikeperch, bass, catfish, lobster and trout.
Above the northern side of the lake there is the homonymous Turkish Cypriot village, which has been abandoned since the 70s. Following the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the population exchange agreement between Denktash and Clerides, the settlement was abandoned as the last Turkish Cypriot residents were forced to move to the northern side of the island.
