Kolpos ton Koralion
Kolpos ton koralion (Coral bay) is perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches in western Cyprus and can be found approximately 13 kilometers north of Paphos in the homonymous province, and about 5 kilometers southeast of the tourist town of Peyia.
It is one of the most famous beaches of Cyprus, and for a good reason. The light-colored sand, the turquoise shades of the sea, and one of the most beautiful sunsets of the island with the red sun “diving” into the water, seem to be reasons enough for visiting Kolpos ton koralion, also known as MAA beach, because next to it is located the archaeological site MAA-Paleokastro.
Kolpos ton Koralion is divided into two bays, a large one, which is particularly popular among sports enthusiasts, and a smaller one, situated beside the small port, right below the Coral Bay Beach Resort. The last bay is considered more ideal for families, but both bays enjoy the magnificent setting described above – golden sand and calm shallow waters on two beautifully curved shores. Being one of the most award winning beaches of the island, as it has been awarded the Blue Flag at least nine times, today it stands out for the high quality services offered to the bathers. During summer it is believed that approximately 2000 visitors every day enjoy the sea and the clear waters or relax under the umbrellas of the area.
As one of the best organized beach of Paphos, Kolpos ton Koralion offers some facilities for people with restricted mobility, as well as two pavilions – cafes, where one can find changing rooms, showers and toilets. During summer there are lifeguards and modern facilities for all kinds of water sports. On this beach you can meet from groups of young people, to families of carefree tourists, while in recent years the whole coastal area of Peyia experiences a growth in tourist luxury units, restaurants and bars.
With the easily accessible Kolpos ton Koralion portrayed on most postcards of Pafos, the visitor to the region can also walk or stroll to one of the nearby and equally beautiful beaches, exploring Laourou beach, the Sea Caves of Peyia, and the beach where the green turtles nest (Lara beach).
