Kato Polemidia

Kato Polemidia is found almost 6 km from the center of Limassol in the homonymous province of Cyprus, and is situated about 100 km from Nicosia, over 80 km from Larnaca and 70 km from Paphos.

Being a town northwest of the capital, and very close to the general hospital of Limassol, Kato Polemidia has been an independent municipality since 1986 and the second largest refugee municipality of Limassol. With a permanent population of over 20,000 inhabitants it is one of the industrial areas of Limassol.

The name Kato Polemidia is linked to the existence of the polemidkia tree, which grows by the hundreds in the region, and the history of this town goes back to the prehistoric years. Before the Turkish invasion of 1974 it was one of the mixed villages (inhabited by both Greek and Turkish Cypriots) of the island but after the invasion, the composition of its inhabitants changed. Today there live only Greek Cypriots and even though Pano Polemidia is now a separate settlement, the two communities co-exist in the same municipality.

Kato Polemidia offers many attractions for tourists, such as the Medical Museum of Cyprus, with a collection of old and classic medical tools and machinery used for the first time in Cyprus, as well as the Archaeological Museum of Kato Polemidia, housed in a small traditional café, exhibiting a collection of pottery and rich material about the excavations and findings in the area. Additionally, the hill Kalevounari with the sculptures, a playground, a camping area and a café restaurant with panoramic views of Limassol, and the nature trail that runs along it, are some of the other things you can do whilst visiting the region.

Finally, in Kato Polemidia, among other, functions a municipal library, and a special stray animal control service.
