Kapilio
Kapilio is a village in the Limassol region in Cyprus, situated after the settlements Apesia, Korfi and Limnatis, and about 20 kilometers away from the Limassol city, more than 80 kilometers from Larnaca, almost 100 kilometers from Paphos, and 100 kilometers from Nicosia.
Located close to the river Ampelikos and among pines and vineyards, on a hill at an altitude of nearly 600 meters, you will find the village Kapilio.
The many small renovated stone houses in Kapilio will impress upon the visitors images from the glorious past of the village, which now has only 25 residents.
In the past, there used to be 7 lini (i.e. wineries) in Kapilio, producing Commandaria, zivania, stafydakia, and other traditional Cypriot drinks. The name of the village comes from the fact that the lini also functioned as taverns for the passing travelers (kapilio in Greek means tavern, pub).
In Kapilio, visitors can see the church of Agios Georgios o Tropeoforos (St. George the Triumphant), to the east of the village, where, around the church square, takes place the procession of the old icon of the Saint from house to house, ending in the church square where according to tradition Saint George met with Saint Mamas on their white horses. In addition, there are a few other small churches such as Panagia Ampeloutziotissa and Panagia Chamatziotissa. Also in the north of the village there is an ancient building which belonged to the Monastery of Kykkos. One of them is the annual dance in the gardens of the cultural center that attracts many emigrants.
