Inia
Inia is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus and it is situated 30 kilometers north of the homonymous city, 92 kilometers northwest of Limassol and 140 kilometers from Nicosia.
One of the villages of Laona, Inia is built at an altitude of 625 meters in the mountain community of Akamas and is a beautiful and tranquil settlement overlooking this unique peninsula and with many vineyards.
The name of the village is related to a variant of the word “inos (meaning wine in Greek)”, which over the years changed spelling, although some claim that even though the origin is ancient Greek, it is not certain where the name originated because it probably changed during the Frankish period.
A victim of the urbanization of the 1970s, Inia (which is also written as Ineia or Innia) counts only a few permanent residents, but has become a beautiful destination that attracts many people to wander in its narrow streets and enjoy the view. There are cafes, mini markets and a renovated paved square from 2015, with benches, clay pots and an old olive mill, and not far from it a beautiful amphitheater. The community is known mainly for the Basketweaving Museum of Inia, where traditional handicrafts are presented, keeping the traditions of the old alive today.
For fanatical nature lovers, at 12.5 km southwest of the community there is the Avakas gorge, the most famous gorge in Cyprus, with a length of 2 kilometers and steep rocks on both sides reaching up to 80 meters high, as well as many species of flora and fauna. In the proximity of the village there are also many of the beautiful beaches of the island, such as the beach of Lara.
Inia is very close to Pano Arodes (3 km), Kato Arodes (2 km), Drousia (1,5 km) and Kathika (6,5 km).
