Hideouts of EOKA
The Hideouts of EOKA are located in the wider area of Lysou in the Paphos province of Cyprus, and are comprised of four hideouts of the fighters for the liberation of the island of Cyprus.
The first of the EOKA hideouts, located on a hill, east of the Profertzi site, “overlooks” the hillside of Agios Merkourios and was known as the “hideaway of the Vatos or Agion Panton”. The second hideout was located in the orchard of Spyros Raftis, about 300 meters above the Byzantine chapel of Agios Georgios, while the third hideaway, which closed with a lid under the earth, is found in the field of Christou Popi (Kathikas site). As a matter of fact, historically this is the hideout from were the rebels begun the attack on the English troops on October 5, 1958. The fourth and last hideout, was in the house of Mihail Nicolas in the community of Lysou.
With little help from the locals or a good historical overview, the visitor can tour the EOKA hideouts, while admiring the unspoiled Cypriot nature.
