Governor’s Beach
The beach Akti tou Kiverniti, or as it is better known to the locals, Governor’s beach, is located in Pentakomo of the Limassol region in Cyprus and about 26 km from the homonymous capital.
The area previously had the name Kalymno or Kalymnos, from where also got its name the adjacent beach, since here used to dock sponge sellers from Kalymnos. On the other hand the name of the Governor’s Beach, came from the fact that here used to spend his holidays one British commander, whose beach house was later presented to the President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios, and even though the house stands there to this day, it remains closed to the public.
With its two kilometers of coastline with a variety of precipitous formations, the Governor’s Beach has developed in recent years into one of the most important tourist attractions of the region. Its sandy coves attract thousands of visitors every year.
The shallow and awarded with the Blue Flag sea of the Governor’s Beach is ideal for families with children, while the towering white cliffs are an ideal spot for fishing and diving. During the summer months the coast has lifeguards offering their services to the bathers.
On the easily accessible Governor’s Beach you may enjoy various water sports, walk along the nature trails at the edge of the cliffs, as well as taste fresh fish in one of the many taverns in the area.
