Goudi
Goudi is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus and it is situated about 7 kilometers from Polis Chrysochous and 10 kilometers from Latsi.
Built among lemon and olive trees in the valley of Polis Chrysochous, next to the village of Goudi flows the homonymous river (Tzerepis) that begins from the location Stavros tis Psokas in the Paphos forest and creates in its path a rich habitat. The sparsely populated settlement can be found after a half-built stone bridge and extends on two slopes with an average altitude of about 100 meters. The river defines the borders of the old and modern community, most of which inhabitants have moved to larger cities in recent decades, and those who stay behind do not exceed 100 in number. Grains, legumes, tobacco, fodder plants, vegetables, vines, citrus fruits, almonds, carobs, and olive trees are cultivated in the area. An olive press still functions here to this day.
Goudi or Vouti was a royal estate of the Lusignans, and that name came from the name of the first settler or owner of the area, who must have been called Goudis. The locals, on the other hand, associate the name of the village with the word voutima (dip in water) or voutin (a small ceramic vase).
Nowadays, Goudi is well-known to the lovers of agrotourism, as many of the locals turned their homes into villas and preserved apartments, giving a new character to the until then rural community and without altering its traditional environment. In addition, offices have been built for the community council in the area, a small medical center and an event hall, as well as a number of green areas and the whole neighborhood has been closed to cars. The wanderings of a visitor in Goudi continue to the picturesque building of the old elementary school, where reading was taught during the years of the English occupation, and which has stopped operating for many years.
At the core of Goudi, where stands the bust of the hero Hatziyiannis Georgios, and among many traditional buildings, the visitor comes upon a paved courtyard and within it the arched rectangular church of Agios Georgios with the tall, arched bell tower. The icons that surround the walls of the temple date back to 1900 and are preserved to this day. To the east of the settlement, at the foot o a mountain, is the cemetery temple of Prophet Elias of 1920, while the chapel of Agios Aristis and the old monastery of Agios Sinai of the area are located on a small hill, about one kilometer away from the community. The community has also two traditional cafes.
Goudi is adjacent to the villages of Paphos, Choli and Skouli, the settlements of Karamoulides and Chrysochou, while to the east it crosses the main road that connects Paphos with Polis Chrysochous. Finally, the wider area of the village is ideal for golf, diving at the nearby beaches and hiking on nature trails
