The park covers an area of 1370 square kilometers, occupying about the 45% of the Troodos mountains and 15% of the total surface of Cyprus while administratively it belongs to three provinces, Nicosia province, Paphos province and Limassol province where there are 110 villages. Concerning the altitude it starts from 300 meters above sea level to the tallest peak, Chionistra, at 1961 meters.

The visitors’ center is the building which houses several services like information or museum is located near the village Amiantos and its well- known mines. It opened its doors in 2015 by the president of the republic Anastasiadis Nick in a renovated building that was formerly a Primary school. The visitors’ center is a project that gives a fresh breath to the area and the surrounding villages of the beautiful mountains. It is a building of old architecture with distinctive feature the fireplaces hosted in each room and the interior courtyard. At the entrance of the building stands out a geological garden which represents the Troodos ophiolite and there are rocks from the whole region in the order they are met in nature. Inside the center, there are various exhibits indicative of the geological importance of Troodos, models representing areas of geological interest (faults, mines, nature trails and others), tables with information and the documentary projection room of the Geopark. The center has a separate room for the asbestos and chromium mines, an ancient furnace for the production of copper and a mining gallery. Before the exit of the building there is a shop where souvenirs, materials from Troodos land and more are sold. The Visitor Center is open daily from 09:00 to 16:00 except Monday.

The Troodos Geopark presents the result of a series of unique and complex geological processes occurring in the region for 90 million years. Indeed, the wooded peak is the deepest layer of a piece of oceanic crust and upper mantle of earth. The geographical region has been attracting geoscientists from around the world who are trying to understand the evolution of the oceans and the planet. One of the plans for the future is the construction of a cable car which will transfer visitors through the air, offering a magical view of the whole region.
