Evretou

Evretou is one of the abandoned Turkish Cypriot villages in Cyprus, located 35 kilometers north of Paphos, 110 kilometers northwest of Limassol and 140 kilometers southwest of Nicosia.

Built over the artificial lake and the dam of the area and very close to the village of Simos, Evretou immediately testifies to its hurtful past at a first glance, with the dilapidated houses, ruined buildings and a general image of abandonment since the 1970s. After the Turkish invasion of 1974 and the Clerides-Denktas agreements for the exchange of populations, the Turkish Cypriot settlement was deserted as the last Turkish Cypriots in the area were forced to leave the village and move to the occupied northern part of the island.

Today, Evretou is visited by many photography enthusiasts because of its impressive but at the same time unpleasant landscape of abandonment. Also, there are plenty of nature lovers who come here, as in the Lake of Evretou there are various species of birds and rare species of flora, while the area is also ideal for those who are interested in birdwatching.
