Chantara Waterfall
The Chantara Waterfall is located 3 kilometers south of the Monastery of Trooditissa and 1 kilometer north of Foini in Limassol province and it is one of the most impressive natural attractions of Cyprus.
Just outside the village at an altitude of 1030 meters, near the Bridge of Piskopou, the Chantara waterfall dominates the landscape in the middle of a wild and unspoilt forest with pine trees, sumach, arbutuses and more. The water of Diarizos river fell from a height of 8 meters, creating a pond and green moss on the volcanic rocks.
On the right side of the waterfall there are carved steps on a rock that lead to a nice spot with a beautiful view of the landscape. Near the waterfall there are the foundations of an old mill which was operational until the early 20 th century. The lakes of the area are beautiful and ideal for the more adventurous types who will dare to jump in these very cold waters.
The waterfall took its name from the homonymous location, Chantara. ‘Antara’ is a word used by the locals of Troodos to describe the noise from running water so it was used to describe the waterfall and after many years it became Chantara.
The waterfall is beautiful all the seasons of the year and it is easily accessible for all cares by a smooth 1 kilometer long dirt road while not far away there is a trout fish farm renowned for its excellent quality fish.
