Botanical Garden Baths of Aphrodite
The Botanical Garden Baths of Aphrodite is one of the many natural attractions of Cyprus and it is located in Akamas, about 25 kilometers northwest of Paphos in the homonymous province.
Located in the western part of the island, in the area of Neo Chorio Paphos the Botanical Garden Baths of Aphrodite is the once secret garden of the goddess of love and beauty that helped her to stay young and beautiful. The time Aphrodite spent there was devoted to her beautification and baths either alone or with her lovers.
Since 2006 along a small paved path leading to the famous baths of Aphrodite, there was created a 10 acres botanical garden with an observatory of birds, and explanatory signs and benches throughout the course of the route, to offer visitors a more comprehensive experience. Today, the Botanical Garden Baths of Aphrodite is itself an ecosystem of great scientific value. The characteristic species of wild vegetation that complement the fauna of the park are the trees, the wild fig, olive, carob, colorful Cypriot wild flowers, endemic cyclamen grown there during spring, as well as the “hair of Aphrodite”- a plant believed to be used by the goddess to wash her hair.
Besides the Botanical Garden Baths of Aphrodite and the hidden cave of the goddess of love, the visitor at the end of the tour can take a refreshing swim at the homonymous beach.
