Androlykos Gorges
The Androlykos gorges are located in the homonymous village of Paphos province in Cyprus and they are bordering with the Akamas cape.
Petratis, Kardamillis and Kranazi or Ampelatzia are the gorges of Androlykos in an area of shrubland biome as well as small lakes and rivers around which trees like olives and carob trees grow and important habitats are formed. Rare species of mammals, such as bats and foxes, amphibians (lizards and snakes), reptiles and several migratory or not birds (Bonelli’s eagle, European roller, peregrine falcon, bee-eater, Cyprus wheatear, Cyprus warbler) find refuge in the region.
The Androlykos gorges have been declared as “Protected Landscapes’, while since 2010 they are included in” Protected Area Network Natura 2000 of the Akamas cape’. Finally, the limestone quarries, which are operating in the region for decades and they are going to expand, are threatening the unique beauty and environmental value of the gorges of Androlykos.
