Alethrikou Bridge
The Alethrikou bridge is located in the homonymous village of Larnaca province in Cyprus, just south of the settlement, above Pouzis river, few meters from the houses.
It is a structure of the 16 th or 17 th century which divided the village to Kato Alethriko and Pano Alethriko where the upper class of the settlement used to live. It was the main transport route that connected the Mazotou area to Alethrikou village.
The bridge is made of local stone with a length of 33 meters. It has three arcs (of a different length) with an average length of 4.5 meters. At the center of the bridge there is a triangular space projecting at each side of the bridge in order to facilitate two coaches at the same time if necessary.
Historical accounts for Alethriko bridge associate it with Egyptian Zekki Pasia, a key member of social life of Larnaca in the late 19 th and early 20 th century. The house of Zekki Passia was built on a pier located opposite the current settlement and it was the meeting point influential people of the time. Given the importance of the bridge, the Egyptian himself paid the expenses needed for maintenance, repair and widening, in order to facilitate people and the transport of goods to and from his house.
Alethrikou bridge is part of the traditional heritage of the community and for centuries it made life easier for the locals and it used to connect the commonitites of Alethrikou, Aplanta and Anafotia.
Even today vehicles can pass but a new modern bridge has been constructed near the Tzelefou bridge.
