Agios Dimitrianos

Agios Dimitrianos is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus and it is situated 23 kilometers northeast of the homonymous city, 79 kilometers northwest of Limassol and 162 kilometers southwest of Nicosia.

Built at an altitude of 550 meters among low hills and many vineyards, Agios Dimitrianos is a small settlement of approximately 70 inhabitants who live in traditional stone houses with wooden doors and balconies. Although it is a small community, the visitor here will find luxurious rooms for rent and traditional guesthouses, while quite a few are those who visit the area for its natural beauty or to have their coffee in the traditional cafe of the village.

The name of the settlement is linked to the church of Agios Dimitrianos, which is also its patron saint and celebrates on 6 November. This saint was born in 834-835 AD. and practiced his faith in the cave of the community, before becoming a Bishop of the settlement of Chitron. The area where the cave is and the church are overgrown with cypresses and perennial olives, while the location is paved and therefore is ideal for a visitor to rest and enjoy the tranquility of the place.

Within walking distance of the community you will find the famous Panagia Chrysorrogiatissa Monastery (12.5 km) and the Holy Monastery of Paphos (11.5 km), two of the most important monasteries in the province. Chrysorrogiatissa is a magnificent building complex that was founded in the 12th century and is a place of pilgrimage for many local and foreign visitors (mainly from Russia), who come in the thousands per year to see the miraculous icon. The Holy Monastery is also one of the most ancient religious sites, since it was built in 300 AD. on the ruins of an ancient Greek temple of the king of Paphos Nicocles (374 / 373-361 BC), and was dedicated to Hera. Agios Dimitrianos is located very close to the villages of Psathi (2 km), Kannaviou (3.5 km), Kritou Marotou (3 km), Milia (2.5 km) and Phyti (3 km).

For those who love wondering in a verdant landscape, just outside the community and between the settlements of Agios Dimitrianos and Psathi, begins the circular Nature Trail of Arnies, which is 3 km long.
