Center of Environmental Information of Athalassa

The Center of Environmental Information of Athalassa is located in the homonymous national forest, about 6 kilometers southeast of Nicosia in the homonymous province of Cyprus.

More precisely the center is located in the northeastern edge of the park of Agios Georgios Athalassas, opposite the university campus of the capital. The goal of the Center of Environmental Information of Athalassa is to highlight the different environmental aspects of the National Forest of Athalassa and the wider region of Mesaoria therefore it informs and educates the visitors about the importance of Cyprus’ environment. The environmental information and education of students who visit, but also the general public, is one of the main priorities of this center.

The Center of Environmental Information Athalassa includes a number of rooms (geology, flora and fauna) with models and three-dimensional representations of the ecosystems of the area, an auditorium for screenings and lectures, where there is a 20-minute film screening on the most important parks of the island, a small laboratory with microscopes and stereoscopes, and a shop for gifts-souvenirs. Outside the center there is also a small botanical garden with representative samples of plants and rocks of Cyprus.

Finally, the Centre of Environmental Information Athalassa operates all year round, offering a wide range of facilities, such as toilets, computers, parking and rest areas, while the space is also accessible to the disabled.
