Zoopigi

Zoopigi is a village in Limassol, in the homonymous province of Cyprus, which is situated about 25 km from Limassol, almost 60 km from Nicosia, 70 km from Larnaca and more than 90 km from Paphos.

In the wider geographical region of Pitsilia, on your way up from Agros you will encounter the small village of Zoopigi. This settlement, with about 100 inhabitants, built on the slopes of Mount Troodos and at an altitude of 900 meters is crossed by the tributaries of the Yermasoyeia river and the river Limnatis, that form in their passing deep valleys.

The village of Zoopigi is already mentioned during the Venetian rule, while its founding is connected to the fact that at that point there was plenty of water available, and as a result other nearby settlements moved to the current location.

Zoopigi is linked to the production of Commandaria (local sweet wine), being part of the famous community of the koumantarochoria (wine producing villages). As a result in the recent years, the homonymous Commandaria Museum has been founded in the village, which exhibits the history of this ancient wine, housed in a former winery.

In the square of Zoopigi you will find the traditional café of the small community and very near is situated the church of Zoodochos Pigi, with the preserved frescoes of the 16th century, from where it is believed that the village took its name, as well as two historical monuments.

Finally, north of the village Zoopigi you will find the village Kato Mylos and Agios Theodoros Lemesou, while to the south are located the villages Kalo Chorio Lemesou and Louvaras.
