Vrysoules
The village of Vrysoules is a refugee settlement of the community of Aheritos in the Famagusta province of Cyprus and is situated about 20 km from the center of Ayia Napa.
In the course of the tragic events of 1974, the inhabitants of Aheritos found temporary shelter at the SEDIGEP packaging plant in Vrysoules, which is currently located on the territory of the British bases of Agios Nikolaos. Later some refugees settled at the site of Agios Georgios Vrysoulon, and others fled abroad.
Prior to 1974, the village of Vrysoules was mainly a settlement whose inhabitants were occupied in husbandry, while today it is also touristically developed.
The church of Agios Dimitrios and the monument dedicated to the lost and missing persons since the 1974 invasion are some of the main sights of the village. In addition, one of the most picturesque churches in the region, that of Agios Georgios (St. George) of Pigadia, is located near Vrysoules, while the visitor can taste the local cuisine of the area in the taverns that are situated around.
The bi-communal RENEWAL program, supported by the United Nations Development Program in Cyprus (UNDP-ACT Cyprus), is also active in the village of Vrysoules. It also operates in other areas of the Famagusta province, such as Deryneia, and the village of Frenaros.
