Softades

Softades is an abandoned village in the Larnaca district of Cyprus, situated 15 km southwest of Larnaca, 70 km southeast of Nicosia and 60 km northeast of Limassol.

Very close to Kiti and Pervolia, Softades until the Turkish invasion of 1974, was a purely Turkish Cypriot village. After Attila and the Clerides-Dektas agreements for population exchange, the Turkish Cypriots from Softades were forced to move to the Turkish-occupied areas of the north and the Greek Cypriots, respectively, came to the free territories of Cyprus, both abandoning their homes.

Since then Softades have not been inhabited, but today they are famous for their nearby beaches, namely Softades beach where dogs are allowed to swim, while not far the Parasolia and Mazotos beach are meeting points for the surfers of the island of Cyprus. In general, the western coastal area of Larnaca is the only area on the island where someone can undertake Kitesurfing and it is obviously the most ideal location because of the favorable weather conditions, with many winds blowing, raising in turn large waves.
