Pano Polemidia
The settlement Pano Polemidia can be found almost 5 km from the center of Limassol in the homonymous province of Cyprus, and is situated approximately 90 kilometers from Nicosia, over 80 km from Larnaca and 65 km from Pafos.
Next to the main road connecting Limassol-Platres-Troodos, Pano Polemidia is built at an altitude of 100 meters at a location that is crossed by the river Garyllis, which provides water for the vines, the carob trees, the wheat and vegetables of the region.
To the south of Pano Polemidia is Kato Polemidia and both settlements have borrowed their name from the polemidkia tree, which grows in the area. Historically the settlement belonged to the Order of Carmelites during the Frankish period. Previously an unmixed Turkish Cypriot village in the Limassol district, and after the Turkish invasion of 1974 there reside only Greek Cypriot refugees. Today the village has about 3000 residents.
The village of Pano Polemidia is culturally active and has several parks running along it. There operates a kindergarten and an elementary school, and local attractions are the church of Agia Anastasia (St. Anastasia) and Timios Stavros (the Holy Cross).
