Laya
Laya is a small mountainous village in the district of Larnaca in Cyprus, situated 45 km west of Larnaca, 47 km southeast of Nicosia and 46 km northeast of Limassol.
In a magical ride through the verdant nature, the dense pine forest and the panoramic views of the northern Larnaca to the suburbs of Limassol, the village Laya “climbs” on the southern slopes of the mountain top Kionia.
The traditional settlement built with darker and lighter stones at 490 meters altitude above sea level, offers visitors tranquility and natural relaxation. Characteristic of the village is the old mill and the many old drinking fountains, some of which are built into the foundations of the houses. Although residents have renovated their homes, they have left almost unchanged the drinking fountains without demolish them. The oldest one dates back to 1709, and it used to supply the inhabitants with water. Wood has been used around the fountain in order to highlight its historicity, without destroying it. The central church of the village Laya is the Kimisis tis Theotokou (the Assumption of Virgin Mary).
