Latchi

Latchi is a seaside village in the province of Paphos on the northwest coast of Cyprus. It is located about 4 kilometers west of Polis Chrysochous, almost 10 kilometers east of the Akamas peninsula, 20 kilometers north of Paphos, 130 kilometers west of Nicosia, and 100 kilometers northwest of Limassol.

Leaving behind the mythical Loutra tis Aproditis (Aphrodite’s Baths), the visitors of Cyprus continue their journey to the seaside town of Latchi with the famous harbor, which initially served as a quay for the fishermen of the area. The lack of an official marina in Paphos has created the conditions for the expansion of this particular harbor, which can now accommodate up to 220 pleasure boats and is an anchor point for high speed boats from the Greek islands and Turkey.

Once upon a time, Latchi was a small harbor mainly exporting locust beans. However, the rise of tourist development has transformed the old stone-built locust bean stores into restaurants, fish taverns and recreation areas. However, it remains a beautiful tourist destination, thanks to its privileged location and the wild natural beauty that surrounds it. From there nowadays, boats sail for the remote coasts, hidden bays and deserted landscapes of Akamas.

Latchi is known all over the island for its fish and here also takes place the homonymous festival. To this day, fishermen bring in their fresh catches each morning, which can be enjoyed by visitors at one of the fish taverns on the village’s pedestrian promenade. This famous tourist resort offers anything the visitor may want, from rooms, almost on all the beaches of the area, to villas for rent, and many options for agrotouristic lodgings.

In recent years Latchi has become particularly popular for family vacations, as the sea and the virgin natural environment always reward those who choose it for a holiday destination. Right next to the picturesque harbor are Latchi beach, Polis Chrysochous Municipal beach, bakeries, supermarket, and many more. There, also, the visitor will find water sports facilities, as well as several Nature Trails that overlook the bay of Chrysochous. If someone prefers a more discrete setting, he can easily and within a few minutes walk to the area of Pomos.
