Kouka

Kouka is a village of semi-mountainous Limassol in the homonymous province of Cyprus and is situated about 28 km from the capital, 80 km from Nicosia, 85 km from Larnaca and almost 90 km from Paphos.

You will find the small village Kouka south of the village of Pera Pedi and between two rivers, Kryos and Kouris.

Kouka got its name from a noble who used to live there, while according to the locals, there was also a person there named Kokas, meaning that he had his hair in a braid, and, corrupted, the village’s name became Kouka. Today, the settlement consists of some Greek families and some foreigners, who in total are no more than 30 people. At the core of Kouka (which has been restored in recent years) is the church of the Timios Stavros (Holy Cross) with pieces of the True Cross, which is likely to be the most ancient that exists in Cyprus. It is even said that the church was built by Saint Helena, something that indicates the existence of the settlement as an organized community already by the 4 th century AD and to the northeast of the village there are also many old drinking fountains. Furthermore, along the length of the village the visitor will find several parks.

Finally, in Kouka there are some accommodation options, while just outside the village (in the direction of the Lofos settlement) the panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains enchant every visitor.
