Kelokedara
Kelokedara is a village in the province of Paphos in Cyprus and it is situated 35 km northeast of the homonymous city, 64 km northwest of Limassol and 114 km southwest of Nicosia.
Until the 1970s and 1980s, Kelokedara was the center of the wider region and was visited by the residents of the surrounding villages as it had all the infrastructure, but then the community, like many others in the countryside of Cyprus, fell victim to urbanisation, as young people began to look for work in the big urban centers of the island.
The central church of the village is dedicated to Agios Georgios (Saint George) and is a 20th century building. There is also the chapel of Archangel Michael. One of the most important sights near the village of Kelokedara, situated 3.5 km south of the community, is Panagia (Virgin Mary) Sindi, one of the most original examples of monastic architecture in Cyprus, which belongs to the UNESCO Protection List. The Panagia of Sindi today constitutes an open museum and an archaeological site with great historical and archaeological value. The church is located in a totally cinematic setting and can be found after taking a narrow downhill road through orchards and uncultivated fields covered with wheat, in one of the most impressive road trips on the island of Cyprus.
The community has a police station, a fire station, a mini-market, a café and a traditional guesthouse with rooms that offer all the comforts, as well as a café-restaurant, and there is also a large private donkey farm where guests can take a stroll on these very likeable animals, feed them and eat local appetizers in the restaurant.
