Avdimou beach
Avdimou beach is one of the many beaches of Cyprus and is situated 4 kilometers south of the homonymous village in the Limassol district.
When reaching the beach, after having crossed the road along the beautiful vineyards, you will encounter the old dilapidated carob warehouses (teratsion as they are called by the locals), a small mosque and two café-restaurants that offer high quality services to the bathers of the beach. One of the two cafes offers sun loungers and umbrellas.
The shoreline of a small and relatively unknown bay into the middle of which flows the homonymous river, Avdimou beach is a large beach with crystal clear and warm waters that is covered with fine sand and colored pebbles. The beach is over one kilometer long and 30 meters wide. Other amenities offered at the beach, are the changing rooms and showers, while there is also a lifeguard on duty during the summer months.
Although administratively the beach is part of Limassol, as a property it is owned by the United Kingdom and the neighboring British bases. Therefore, Avdimou beach is the primary choice also for the families of the British servicemen.
The beach is quite popular with kitesurfing athletes, the famous sport, due to the waves that favor this specific water sport. Among other things, it is also where caretta caretta loggerhead turtles come to nest and lay their eggs every August. At that time, the visitor will see the characteristic marking and partition wires ensuring the tranquility of the likeable and protected animals, and if you are lucky, you might even see some.
Ideal for families with children, for couples who want to enjoy a quiet environment, or for solitary visits to the beach, Avdimou beach is a relatively unknown to the general public shore, but for the… connoisseurs, it is one of the best in Cyprus.
